The main body
of the boot can be leather, fabric, suede and,
thanks today's technology also Kevlar,
carbon or synthetic coated materials.
A one piece upper construction has no unnecessary
seams or stitching and is therefore the most
waterproof.
The different thickness of the upper material
gives a different degree of rigidity in the
construction. The upper should be waterproof
but also ensure good breathability. To
learn more about leather...
Full grain leather
Is
a full grain water repellent Leather. This
is the best quality and the toughest and
most water resistant but it also has breathable
characteristics and is approved by all main
manufacturers of breathable and waterproofing
inter layers. This leather is chrome tanned
and re-tanned with synthetic products for
a warmer smoother and natural feeling. The
leather is waterproofed during the tanning
process and is drum dyed all through its'
thickness.
Nubuck
leather
Is
a full grain water repellent leather that
has been buffed to give it a velvety finish.
It is hard wearing and attractive looking,
the open structure allows shoe conditioners
to be absorbed properly. This leather is
water resistant but it also has breathable
characteristics and is approved by all main
manufacturers of breathable and waterproofing
membranes. The leather is waterproofed during
the tanning process and is drum dyed throughout
its' thickness. Available also in
waxed version.
Suede
leather
Is
leather made from the flesh split of the
hide and is finished with a velvety nap.
This type of leather is made water resistant
but the performance can not be compared
with the high standards of a full grain
water repellent leather. Special treatment
renders suede oil and water repellent and
stain proof. Suede is high quality leather
and an excellent upper material for trekking
boots where lightness, flexibility and softness
are required.
PU
coated leather
Leather
made from the inner splits of the hide finished
with a polyurethane coating. This leather
is made resistant to water penetration and
has also a high resistance to scratches.
There are many different types of PU coated
leather depending upon the technical standards
they are required to reach. The coating
can be embossed with a design giving to
the leather the most wide variety of textures.
T.A.S.
Technical Anti Scratch
This
upper material has a leather support to
give it stiffness and strength and is then
coated with special compounds that give
it an exceptional resistance against scratches,
cuts and damage.
Technical Anti Scratch is indicated for
action footwear.
Provides a lightweight
upper material with high abrasion resistance
in any climatic situation. The performance
is unchanged throughout the year and gives
long life. The
comfort, lightweight and protection given
by Kevlar® is mostly required in high
technical action footwear. In activity boots
and technical equipment, Kevlar® reaches
its highest performance.
Kevlar® is a registered Trademark of
DuPont.
Is a performance fabric
used for upper construction. The material
strength of the yarns and the method of
weaving guarantees that this fabric has
exceptional abrasion resistance and durability
at any temperature and maintains these
characteristics over many years. Cordura®
performance fabric gives outstanding durability
and excellent resistance to tears and
punctures. It also light, easy to care
for and quick to dry. Cordura®
is 2 times more durable than Nylon, 3
times more than polyester and 7 times
more than Cotton. Cordura®
is a registered Trademark of DuPont.
